MTN Ghana Donates $15M Emergency Unit to Hospital
A new state-of-the-art emergency unit is transforming healthcare access for thousands in Ghana's Volta Region. The 15 million cedi facility addresses critical overcrowding and brings advanced medical equipment to those who need it most.
Healthcare workers at Ho Teaching Hospital walked into a completely transformed workspace Thursday, thanks to a 15 million cedi gift that's already saving lives.
The MTN Ghana Foundation handed over a fully equipped accident and emergency unit designed to meet modern teaching hospital standards. The expansion addresses years of dangerous overcrowding while bringing advanced medical technology to Ghana's Volta Region.
"Nobody should be left behind in the provision of quality healthcare delivery," said Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, MTN's Chief Sustainability and Corporate Services Officer. The company identified the emergency unit as critical infrastructure after seeing how overwhelmed the existing facility had become.
The new unit doesn't just serve immediate patients. It's also a training ground for the next generation of Ghanaian doctors through the University of Health and Allied Sciences, meaning its impact will multiply for decades to come.

Hospital CEO Dr Hintermann Mbroh said staff morale has soared with access to modern equipment. Regional Minister James Gunu praised the project as proof that partnerships between private companies and public hospitals can deliver real results for communities.
The Ripple Effect
This emergency unit represents something bigger than one hospital upgrade. It's the 50th major infrastructure project MTN Ghana Foundation has delivered to communities across the country during its 30 years of operation.
Each project strengthens Ghana's healthcare system, creating a network of facilities that can handle emergencies, train medical professionals, and serve communities that might otherwise go without quality care. The foundation's approach targets gaps in critical services, ensuring resources reach areas of greatest need.
Board Chairman Dr Delanyo Dorvlo said conscious efforts are underway to make Ho Teaching Hospital one of Ghana's best facilities. University Vice Chancellor Professor Lydia Aziato is already looking ahead, requesting a cardiology center to expand specialist training and treatment options even further.
When companies invest in healthcare infrastructure, entire regions benefit for generations.
