Muncie Opens Treatment Center to Expand Recovery Access

For years, people in Delaware County seeking help for addiction faced an impossible choice: skip treatment or leave their community behind.

That changes June 24 when Indiana Treatment Centers opens its new Muncie facility at 3000 S. Tillotson Ave. The center will provide medical detox and residential treatment for substance use disorders and mental health conditions, all within reach of home.

Delaware County has struggled with some of the highest addiction rates in Indiana while offering few local places for residents to get help. Families watched loved ones drive to distant cities for care, making recovery harder when support systems stayed behind.

"This center fills a critical gap in our local continuum of care," said Jeffrey Hansard, Delaware County's Chief Probation Officer. He called the opening "long overdue" for a community that needed more options for people ready to heal.

The new facility emerged from partnerships between Indiana Treatment Centers, county leaders, and Ascension Recovery Services, a national behavioral health organization. Together, they designed a center focused on evidence-based care with individualized treatment plans and clinical oversight in a structured, supportive environment.

The Ripple Effect

The Muncie center will serve families across Central Indiana, including Anderson, New Castle, and Marion. When treatment exists close to home, patients stay connected to their support networks during recovery. Family members can visit more easily. People maintain community ties that strengthen their path forward.

Local healthcare providers, justice system partners, and community organizations backed the project, recognizing that accessible treatment transforms not just individual lives but entire communities. Fewer people cycling through emergency rooms and jails means more neighbors getting the sustained help that leads to lasting recovery.

The grand opening runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 24, welcoming community members to tour the facility and meet the clinical team.
