Murrieta Seeks Heroes for 2026 Field of Honor Event
Two California Rotary Clubs are searching for veterans and first responders to honor at an event featuring more than 2,026 American flags. The 18th annual Field of Honor celebration will recognize those who showed courage in the face of danger.
The Rotary Clubs of Murrieta and Old Town Temecula want to hear about your local heroes.
The clubs are accepting nominations for veterans and first responders to be honored during the 2026 Murrieta Field of Honor, happening November 7-14. This marks the 18th year of the celebration, which transforms Town Square Park into a sea of patriotism with more than 2,026 full-sized American flags.
The nomination criteria is clear and meaningful. A hero is someone who displays courage or self-sacrifice in the face of danger, adversity, or from a position of weakness for the greater good.
This year, individual nominees must be U.S. military veterans or first responders who served in American communities and currently live in Riverside County, California. Organizations that serve these populations in Riverside County can also be nominated.
Getting someone recognized is straightforward. Send a photo, short biography, and a few sentences explaining why they deserve the honor to MurrietaRotary@gmail.com by September 7, 2026.

The City of Murrieta serves as the presenting sponsor, partnering with both Rotary clubs to make the weeklong celebration possible. Selected heroes receive special recognition during Field of Honor week and are featured in the event's magazine and media posts.
The Ripple Effect
What started as a single community gathering has grown into an 18-year tradition that brings neighbors together to honor sacrifice and service. By showcasing these stories publicly, the Field of Honor reminds everyone that courage isn't rare. It lives next door, volunteers at the fire station, and walks among us every day.
The program also creates a lasting record of local heroism. Families gain public recognition of their loved ones' service while younger generations learn about the real people who kept their community safe.
A committee of Rotary Club members will review all nominations and make final selections. Questions about the program can be directed to Linda Dozier at MurrietaRotary@gmail.com.
This November, thousands of flags will fly as living tributes to those who put others first.
