Narrabri Trivia Night Funds Free Books for Kids

A beer garden full of trivia fans just helped dozens of local children get free books every month for years to come.

The Narrabri Rotaract Club turned its regular quiz night into a fundraiser for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program. The Tourist Hotel beer garden filled to capacity with eager participants ready to test their knowledge.

The evening kicked off with a round dedicated entirely to Dolly trivia, celebrating the country music legend who founded the program in 1995. Dolly created the initiative through her Dollywood Foundation to honor her father, who never learned to read or write.

Her vision was simple but powerful: every child should have access to books, no matter what their family can afford. The program mails one age-appropriate book per month to registered children from birth until they start school, building home libraries one story at a time.

The initiative launched in the United States nearly three decades ago and reached Australia in 2013. Narrabri joined the program more recently thanks to dedicated local volunteers and generous community support.

The Ripple Effect

The impact reaches far beyond a single trivia night. Each book delivered opens new worlds for young readers and gives parents tools to bond with their children through storytime.

The local group now plans their second annual Harvest Moon fundraiser for October 17, building on this momentum. Their work ensures Narrabri children start life surrounded by stories, imagination, and the gift of literacy.
