Nashville Schools Hit Record High Test Scores in 2025

Metro Nashville Public Schools just announced record-breaking test scores for 2025, marking the highest proficiency rates the district has ever seen under current standards. Students improved in every major subject, including English, math, science, and social studies.

High school students crushed their End-of-Course exams too, showing improvement in 19 out of 21 grade-level subject areas compared to last year. For the fourth year running, the district earned Tennessee's highest possible rating for student growth, a Level 5 designation that had never been achieved four years in a row until now.

The district now dedicates about 10% of its entire budget to professional learning. That funding pays for instructional coaches, teacher leaders, and subject specialists who work side-by-side with educators in actual classrooms, offering real-time guidance and collaboration.

Superintendent Dr. Adrienne Battle says this continuous approach strengthens teaching across every classroom. Recent research from Brown University's Annenberg Institute backs this up, finding that long-term, hands-on professional learning produces far better student outcomes than traditional workshops.

When one teacher learns a better way to explain fractions or engage reluctant readers, that knowledge spreads. Coaches share strategies across schools, teachers collaborate during planning sessions, and entire grade levels lift together.
