Nashville Students Score Big Academic Wins for Second Year

Nashville's public school students are proving that when a community invests in education, kids rise to the challenge.

Metro Nashville Public Schools just released preliminary results from spring 2026 state testing, and the news keeps getting better. For the second year in a row, students across the district improved their scores in core subjects like English, math, and social studies.

The wins showed up everywhere. Social studies proficiency jumped 4.1 percentage points to reach 42.1 percent, marking the biggest subject gain across grades three through eight. High schoolers crushed their end-of-course exams, with Integrated Math III scores climbing 7.9 points and English II rising 6.5 points.

Younger students are building strong foundations too. Third graders boosted their English proficiency by 2.5 points, while fourth graders gained 2.6 points in math. Seventh and eighth graders also posted solid reading gains.

What makes these results special is that they build on 2025's performance, which was already the strongest in district history. Nashville students even outpaced the state average in several subjects, including social studies and multiple high school math and English courses.

"Our success is undeniable, and it belongs to our students and the educators who believe in them," said Dr. Adrienne Battle, the district's superintendent. She credited the gains to better support systems for both teachers and students, along with families and community members who stay committed to excellence.
