Neighbor Rescues Disabled Resident from House Fire

A neighbor's decision to stop and help turned a potentially tragic house fire into a story of human kindness and quick thinking.

The rescue unfolded Thursday afternoon on Lindsay Avenue in East Brainerd, Tennessee, when a passerby noticed smoke pouring from a nearby home around 2:45pm. Without hesitation, he stopped to investigate and found a disabled resident trapped inside the burning house.

The neighbor helped the resident escape to safety and immediately called 911. By the time Chattanooga firefighters arrived minutes later, flames were already shooting from the garage.

The fire proved challenging for crews as two vehicles burning in the garage created what firefighters described as "extra hot" conditions. The flames quickly spread from the garage to the attic, intensifying the blaze.

Firefighters battled the fire for just over 30 minutes, bringing it under control by 3:18pm. Their quick response, combined with the neighbor's early rescue, meant everyone walked away without injuries.

Two adults were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. Investigators are still working to determine what sparked the blaze.
