Netflix Launches Saudi Film Writers Lab in 3 Regions

Saudi Arabia's filmmaking future just got a major boost as Netflix partners with local creative hub Righters House to train the next generation of screenwriters.

The streaming giant announced "Write the Future — Feature Film Writers Lab" this week, a three-month initiative designed to develop emerging writers across the Kingdom. The program will reach communities in Asir, Al Madinah, and the Eastern Province, bringing professional training directly to local talent.

Eighteen selected participants will receive comprehensive support through online masterclasses, in-person workshops, and pitch preparation sessions. The curriculum covers essential screenwriting skills including story development, character creation, narrative structure, and how to pitch projects to industry professionals.

"Screenwriting is at the heart of storytelling, and investing in writers is one of the most meaningful ways we can support the future of storytelling," said Pelin Mavili, Netflix's director of global affairs for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. The company is focused on building skills and creating access to industry expertise across Saudi Arabia.

Delivered entirely in Arabic, the program ensures accessibility for local writers. Each participant will complete a full feature-film development package by the end, including a logline, synopsis, treatment, pitch deck, and recorded pitch presentation.

This initiative represents more than just training for 18 writers. By spreading the program across three regions instead of concentrating it in one major city, Netflix and Righters House are democratizing access to world-class film education.

Rulan Hasan, co-founder and head of content at Righters House, calls it "a strategic step to empower writers living in the Kingdom with global storytelling tools." The program bridges the gap between creative potential and professional industry standards, preparing participants to compete on an international stage.
