Netherlands Helps Ukraine Build High-Tech Green Farms

Ukraine is transforming agriculture in two regions with help from the Netherlands, bringing high-tech greenhouse farming to communities rebuilding from hardship. The Smart Harvest project will create modern hydroponic farms in Khmelnytskyi and Lviv, teaching farmers to grow fresh vegetables, berries, and greens year-round using advanced Dutch technology.

In Khmelnytskyi, the initiative will build innovation hubs featuring high-tech greenhouses and vertical growing systems that use water instead of soil. Demonstration sites will let farmers see the technology in action before investing in their own operations.

A new Greenhouse Business School will offer practical training and ongoing support for growers at every skill level. The hands-on education approach means farmers can learn modern techniques without leaving their communities.

The project prioritizes people who need opportunity most. Veterans returning from service, families displaced by conflict, and women entrepreneurs will gain access to new jobs and business ventures in the growing agricultural sector.

In the Lviv region's Bibrka community, construction of demonstration greenhouses and a training center should wrap up by year's end. After that, education programs and advisory services will help launch the next generation of greenhouse farmers.

Dutch greenhouse technology companies are partnering directly with Ukrainian communities, sharing decades of expertise in efficient food production. The Netherlands government is financing the initiative, which continues through 2029.
