New App Tracks $10M in Charity Donations in First Year
More than 6,000 people used a new free tool to track over $10 million in charitable giving during its first tax season. The platform filled a gap left when a popular donation tracker shut down.
When TurboTax discontinued its donation tracking tool after more than a decade, millions of charitable givers suddenly had nowhere to organize their contributions.
A new app called That's A Write-Off just proved how badly people needed a replacement. In less than six months, over 6,000 users tracked more than $10.3 million in charitable donations through the free platform.
Jacob Fitzpatrick built the web-based tool in Santa Rosa, California, launching it in November 2025. By the end of tax season in April 2026, users had logged 22,278 individual donations across the country.
The platform tracks six types of giving: cash contributions, donated goods, charitable mileage, stock transfers, vehicle donations, and high-value assets. Users can export their records directly for tax filing without needing special software.
Donated goods made up the biggest share at $7.8 million, including clothing, furniture, and household items. Cash and check donations added another $2.3 million to the total.
The app works on a freemium model. Basic users can log donations for free, while premium subscribers get unlimited tracking, receipt storage, and an Impact Snapshot feature that shows real-world outcomes like meals provided or school supplies funded.
The Ripple Effect
Making charitable giving easier to track means more people can claim deductions and potentially give more. When donors see their impact visualized in tangible terms, they're reminded why their contributions matter.
The platform evolved quickly based on user feedback. Fitzpatrick redesigned the navigation for mobile devices, added a goods valuation catalog with IRS-compliant fair market values, and created visual summaries showing where donations went.
"We set out to give donors a reliable place to track their giving," Fitzpatrick said. "Crossing $10 million in less than a year tells us people needed this, and that we delivered something worth using."
The team plans to expand export capabilities and add more account management features as the user base grows.
When technology makes generosity easier to manage, everyone wins: donors maximize their tax benefits, charities receive well-documented support, and communities benefit from sustained giving.
