New Memorial Garden Helps Grieving Families in Pennsylvania

Families in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, now have a dedicated space to remember the people they've lost, thanks to a heartwarming collaboration between two local organizations.

The Healing Patch Children's Grief Program and Falon's Sprinkle Kindness Walk joined forces to create a memorial rock garden at Legion Park. The garden offers grieving families a quiet place to reflect on cherished memories while adding decorated rocks honoring their loved ones.

Shannon Morris, who founded Falon's Sprinkle Kindness Walk in memory of her own loved one, recently invited families from the Healing Patch program to paint memorial rocks for the garden. Now the space is open to anyone in the community who wants to create a weatherproof rock and add it to the sacred area.

"Finding tangible ways to connect with loved ones who have died is a valuable part of the grieving process," said Melody Ray, coordinator of the Healing Patch. The garden provides that physical connection many people need while navigating loss.

The memorial garden sits along a serene walking path that also features a "wind phone," a special installation that helps people process grief. The disconnected phone lets visitors pick up the receiver and speak freely to those they've lost, sharing stories or simply saying goodbye in a safe, judgment-free space.

The Ripple Effect

The Healing Patch has been supporting grieving children and families since 2006, offering free peer support to those who've lost a parent, sibling, grandparent, or close family member. The program has grown to include young adults ages 18 to 25 and now provides in-school services.

Through shared experiences, participants discover their feelings are normal and that healing is possible. The memorial rock garden extends this mission beyond scheduled meetings, creating a permanent community resource for anyone navigating loss.

Falon's Sprinkle Kindness Walk, supported by The Falon Morris Foundation, focuses on uplifting initiatives that teach emotional intelligence and empower people to support one another. The foundation keeps Falon Morris's message of hope alive through projects that bring comfort to the community.

Together, these organizations prove that grief doesn't have to be faced alone.
