New Pet Tracker Works Anywhere Using Satellite Tech
Dog owners can now track their pets anywhere in the US, even miles from cell towers, thanks to a new tracker that connects to satellites. The Fi Ultra automatically switches between regular networks and space-based coverage to keep tabs on adventurous pups.
Losing sight of your dog during a mountain hike just got a lot less scary.
Fi just launched the Fi Ultra, a pet tracker that uses T-Mobile's satellite service powered by Starlink to locate dogs anywhere in the continental United States. Whether your pup wanders into remote backcountry or rural areas without cell towers, the device keeps working.
The tracker automatically switches between regular LTE networks and satellite coverage without any action from the owner. That means continuous location data flows to your phone no matter where your dog roams, from city parks to wilderness trails.
The technology comes with one tradeoff. Because the GPS stays on constantly to maintain that satellite connection, the Fi Ultra lasts about two days per charge. Older Fi trackers can run anywhere from two weeks to three months depending on activity levels.
For hikers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts who take their dogs on adventures, that frequent charging is a small price for peace of mind. The device works with most standard collars and harnesses, making it easy to add to existing gear.

The Ripple Effect
Beyond basic tracking, Fi Ultra includes features that could help reunite lost dogs with their families faster. The device has a callback training system using sounds and vibrations to teach dogs to return on command.
If a dog goes missing, owners can activate Lost Mode from the app for heightened tracking. A feature called Search Party enlists nearby Fi users to help detect the lost dog's tracker, creating a community safety net.
The company plans to add Safe Zone alerts soon, which will trigger sounds and vibrations when dogs cross set boundaries. This could help train dogs to stay within designated areas during outdoor adventures.
New members pay $199 for the tracker, plus a $20 activation fee and $189 annual subscription. Existing Fi customers can add the Ultra to their current plan for $299.
The combination of satellite technology and community features shows how space-based connectivity is moving beyond phones to protect the four-legged family members we love.
