New Platform Backs Nigerian Innovators Across All Regions

Thousands of brilliant innovators across Nigeria have struggled for years with the same problem: great ideas but no clear path to turn them into reality.

That's changing now. Africa Innovation Foundry (AIF) officially launched in Abuja this week as Nigeria's first innovation platform designed to reach entrepreneurs in all six geopolitical zones with equal support and opportunity.

The platform tackles a problem that's held back African innovation for decades. Talented founders in northern and southeastern Nigeria have historically had far less access to startup capital, mentorship, and networks than their counterparts in major cities like Lagos. AIF aims to flip that script entirely.

"Whether you are in Katsina, Sokoto, Maiduguri, or Abuja, you deserve access to the same opportunities that can turn your ideas into global solutions," said Deji Garuba, Executive Director of AIF. The platform will offer incubation labs, regional bootcamps, policy discussions, and direct connections to investors.

What makes AIF different is its region-specific approach. Instead of forcing every entrepreneur through the same generic program, AIF tailors support to match each zone's unique strengths and challenges. A fintech founder in the South-West might need different resources than an agriculture tech innovator in the North-East.

The platform focuses on sectors where innovation can create massive impact: health, education, agriculture, fintech, clean energy, and digital technology. These aren't trendy buzzwords but areas where smart solutions can genuinely improve millions of lives.

AIF's launch event brought together government officials, venture capitalists, academics, and tech ecosystem leaders. The gathering featured discussions on how policy, capital, and talent development must work together to build a thriving innovation economy.

The Ripple Effect

When innovation platforms concentrate only in capital cities, entire regions get left behind. Brilliant minds go undiscovered, local problems go unsolved, and economic opportunity stays concentrated in the same few places.

AIF's inclusive model could change that pattern across Nigeria and potentially set an example for the rest of Africa. Regional activations will roll out in coming months across North-Central, North-West, North-East, South-East, South-South, and South-West Nigeria. AIF is partnering with ecosystem leaders, donors, investors, and government agencies to ensure long-term sustainability.
