NFL Star's Final Hours Spent Feeding San Jose Homeless

Former NFL pass rusher Aldon Smith spent the last hours of his life doing something that made no headlines and earned no applause. He showed up at a San Jose homeless charity with 10 pizzas and a heart to help.

Smith, 36, arrived unannounced at CHAM Deliverance Ministry on Saturday afternoon with friend Amir Shirazi. The two dropped off the pizzas as a surprise donation for people experiencing homelessness in the Bay Area.

"My impression was that this is a young man that wanted to help the homeless, which was great," said Scott Wagers, the charity's co-founder. He described Smith as looking tired during the visit but focused on the mission at hand.

After making the delivery, Smith and Shirazi drove to Shirazi's home nearby. Shirazi went inside for a few minutes, and when he returned, Smith was slumped over in the truck, unresponsive.

Shirazi immediately called 911 and performed CPR until emergency services arrived. Smith was rushed to a San Jose hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

But Shirazi saw something the cameras missed. "He was a very sweet, caring, loving giant," he told the San Francisco Chronicle. "If you really knew him, you'd know who he truly is."

Smith had recently visited the 49ers' facility to speak with rookies, using his own story to guide younger players. He was trying to give back in ways that mattered.

His final act wasn't performed for social media or publicity. No cameras captured the moment, no press release announced the donation. He simply showed up with pizza for people who needed a meal.
