Nigeria Delivers Smart Boards, Books to Benue Schools
The Universal Basic Education Commission just equipped public schools across Benue State with smart boards, computers, and thousands of textbooks to improve learning for Nigerian children. The state government pledged to ensure every donated resource reaches classrooms where it's needed most.
Thousands of Nigerian students in Benue State just got a major upgrade to their classrooms, thanks to a nationwide push to strengthen education from the ground up.
The Universal Basic Education Commission distributed smart boards, computers, textbooks for English and mathematics, early childhood education materials, history books, storybooks, and classroom supplies to public schools across the state. The handover ceremony took place at the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board headquarters in Makurdi on Tuesday.
"The availability of quality teaching and learning materials is fundamental to effective education delivery," said Hajiya Aisha Garba, UBEC's Executive Secretary. Her team specifically chose materials designed to support both teachers and students at the basic education level, where strong foundations make the biggest difference.
Deputy Governor Dr. Sam Ode accepted the donation on behalf of Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia and made a public commitment that matters. The state pledged to safeguard every smart board, every book, and every marker to ensure they actually reach the students who need them.

UBEC praised Benue's track record of consistently accessing and using federal education support. The Commission's North Central Director, Elder Edward Abalaka, highlighted that this reliability makes Benue a model for how states can partner with federal programs to build better schools.
The Ripple Effect
This intervention reaches beyond new equipment in classrooms. When students have proper textbooks and teachers have functioning smart boards, learning outcomes improve. Better education at the basic level creates stronger foundations for secondary school, university, and ultimately careers that lift families out of poverty.
Dr. Grace Adagba, Executive Chairman of Benue's education board, has been repositioning the system for greater efficiency, according to UBEC. That groundwork means these materials arrive in a system ready to use them effectively, not just store them in warehouses.
The initiative aligns with UBEC's mandate to ensure Nigerian children receive quality, inclusive, and equitable basic education regardless of which state they call home. As more states see Benue's success with federal partnerships, the model spreads.
Fresh storybooks now sit in classrooms where young readers will discover new worlds, and smart boards replace dusty chalkboards in schools that deserved this upgrade years ago.
