Nigeria Deploys Emergency Task Force to Fight Diphtheria

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency has already deployed 500,000 vaccine doses to the affected states. Teams are now working to identify and immunize children who missed their routine shots, particularly in communities where low vaccination rates are fueling the outbreak.

The task force isn't stopping at prevention. They're establishing hospital treatment annexes across three senatorial districts in Katsina to bring care closer to families who need it. The Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina is receiving emergency supplies of life-saving diphtheria antitoxin, antibiotics, additional medical staff, and protective equipment.
