Nigeria Destroys 10K Pounds of Illegal Cannabis Farms

Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency just dealt a significant blow to illegal drug operations by destroying more than 10,000 pounds of cannabis across Edo State. The coordinated effort shows how focused enforcement can dismantle trafficking networks that harm communities.

NDLEA agents discovered two massive cannabis plantations hidden in Ugboku's Igbanke Forest, totaling nearly five acres of illegal crops. Teams destroyed every plant and arrested a 40-year-old man connected to the larger farm.

The operation didn't stop at the plantations. Agents also recovered 27 pounds of processed cannabis ready for street distribution, preventing it from reaching vulnerable users.

State Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju led additional raids in Benin City neighborhoods known as drug hotspots. Ten suspected traffickers were arrested carrying various illegal substances including methamphetamine, tramadol, and cannabis.

One 28-year-old suspect from Delta State was caught with 57 pounds of cannabis and methamphetamine at Oluku. The other nine arrests happened at Abuja Quarters, with suspects traveling from four different Nigerian states to traffic drugs.
