Nigeria Law School Sees 79% Pass Rate on Bar Exam
More than three-quarters of aspiring lawyers in Nigeria just cleared their final hurdle to practice law. The December 2025 Bar exam results show 79.1% of students passed, with over 200 earning top honors.
Over 6,000 law students in Nigeria are celebrating after passing the country's notoriously challenging Bar examination. The Council of Legal Education announced that 79.1% of the 7,602 candidates who sat for the December 2025 exam successfully passed.
Among the successful candidates, 212 students achieved first-class honors, the highest distinction possible. Another 1,216 earned second-class upper division marks, while 2,961 received second-class lower division.
The Bar exam is the final mandatory step for all law graduates who want to practice in Nigeria. Only those who pass can be officially called to the Bar and begin their legal careers.
The Council of Legal Education praised the graduates for their achievement. "Your hard work, dedication and perseverance have yielded commendable results," the council said in its official announcement.
An additional 1,622 students received passing marks, and 314 earned conditional passes, giving them another opportunity to fully qualify. Unfortunately, 1,067 candidates did not pass this round, though they can attempt the exam again.

The Bright Side
A nearly 80% pass rate represents thousands of new legal professionals ready to serve their communities across Nigeria. These graduates will join law firms, government offices, human rights organizations, and corporate legal departments throughout the country.
The success comes at a crucial time when access to legal services remains a challenge for many Nigerians. More qualified lawyers means more people can get the legal help they need, whether for business disputes, family matters, or protecting their rights.
Details about the Call to the Bar ceremony will be sent to successful candidates through their individual portals on the Nigerian Law School website. The ceremony represents the official welcome of these new lawyers into the profession.
For the 212 first-class graduates, the achievement opens doors to prestigious opportunities at top law firms and competitive legal positions. Their excellence sets a high standard for future classes preparing for the rigorous examination.
Thousands of new lawyers are about to take their oaths and begin careers defending justice across Nigeria.
