Nigeria Opens Free Technical College Applications Jan 26

Thousands of Nigerian teenagers now have a clear path to free job training and technical skills, thanks to a nationwide program launching this month.

The Federal Government announced that applications for fully funded education at Federal Technical Colleges open January 26, 2026. Students admitted to these colleges won't pay a single naira for their technical education, removing a major barrier for families across the country.

The program targets young Nigerians between ages 13 and 20, offering them hands-on training in skills that employers actually need. Registration for the National Common Entrance Examination runs through May 24, with the exam scheduled for June 6.

Dr. Maruf Alausa, Nigeria's Minister of Education, approved the initiative as part of a broader push to expand access to quality vocational training. The goal is simple: equip more young people with practical abilities they can use to earn a living and build careers.

Students must have a valid National Identification Number to apply, and all registration happens through the official National Business and Technical Examinations Board portal. The Ministry of Education emphasized using only official channels to avoid scams and misinformation.
