Nigeria Police Officers Clean Streets, Offer Free Clinics

Police officers in Nigeria are trading their usual duties for brooms and stethoscopes this week, launching a community service campaign that's redefining what it means to protect and serve.

The Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State kicked off their annual Police Week on Monday with something unexpected. Officers fanned out across markets, roads, and public spaces for a massive cleanup effort, removing trash and tidying up neighborhoods throughout the state.

But they didn't stop at sanitation. The police command set up free medical outreaches where residents could walk in for health consultations, basic screenings, and essential medications at no cost. The services specifically target underserved populations who might not otherwise access healthcare.

Commissioner of Police Baba Azare led the effort, deploying officers across the state to show that police work extends beyond enforcement. Deputy Superintendent Timfon John explained the goal is strengthening the bond between officers and the communities they serve.
