Nigeria Recovers $800K for Public Schools Project

Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission just handed over 1.28 billion naira (about $800,000 USD) back to Enugu State after recovering it from a construction company CEO who allegedly diverted funds meant for building schools.

The state government had paid Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited 5.7 billion naira to build 22 Smart Green Schools across the region. When CEO Olasijibomi Ogundele allegedly disappeared without completing the work, officials filed a petition with the EFCC.

The anti-corruption agency launched an investigation and successfully traced the missing funds. On Wednesday, EFCC's Enugu director Daniel Ise presented bank checks totaling the recovered amount to state officials.

"This marks the beginning of that recovery process, and we are pleased with the outcome so far," said Chidiebere Onyia, Enugu's Secretary to the State Government. He confirmed the recovered money will be reinvested in infrastructure projects to directly benefit residents.
