Nigeria Registers 14 Million Children in Two Years

Fourteen million Nigerian children now officially exist in the eyes of the law, thanks to a two-year push that's giving kids access to the services and protection they deserve.

UNICEF Country Representative Wafaa Abdelatef announced the milestone during a visit with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. She called the progress "truly impressive" compared to similar efforts in other countries where she has worked.

Birth registration might sound like paperwork, but it's actually a child's first official right. Without it, kids can struggle to access healthcare, enroll in school, or receive social services.

The registration system is now going digital across health facilities throughout Nigeria. The National Assembly is also considering new legislation to make the process even stronger and more accessible for families.
