Nigeria Seizes $1.2M in Smuggled Goods to Protect Citizens

Nigeria's National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control just stopped three massive tankers and a truckload of smuggled goods from reaching store shelves, protecting thousands of families from potentially unsafe products.

The agency intercepted three 66,000-litre tankers carrying vegetable oil and 40,000 cartons of soap with an estimated value of $1.2 million. All the products entered Nigeria illegally through land borders, bypassing critical safety inspections designed to protect consumers.

Director of Investigation and Enforcement Martins Iluyomade announced the seizure in Lagos on Friday. His team discovered that smugglers altered vehicle license plates and disguised their cargo to avoid detection at checkpoints.
