Nigeria Trains 5,876 New Soldiers to Fight Terrorism

The Nigerian Defence Academy in Zaria just completed training for 5,876 recruits using a completely revamped curriculum designed for today's security challenges. Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, announced the graduation at Thursday's Beating of Retreat and Award Ceremony. He explained that the old training wasn't enough anymore, so military leaders rebuilt the entire program from the ground up.

The new curriculum teaches recruits how to fight terrorism, handle insurgency situations, and respond to emerging security threats across Nigeria. Instead of outdated tactics, soldiers now learn modern military skills that match what they'll actually encounter in the field.

"I am delighted to note that your training curriculum was reviewed to reflect the current security realities facing our country," Olatoye said. Greater emphasis on counterterrorism operations means these recruits can immediately support ongoing missions against terrorists, bandits, and criminal groups threatening civilians.

The training pushed the academy's resources to the limit, but instructors successfully guided 5,876 of the original 6,001 recruits through the demanding program. The ceremony recognized outstanding soldiers who excelled in military training, sports, and competitive exercises.
