Nigeria Triples Cash Aid to 154K Families in Jigawa
President Tinubu increased direct cash support from ₦10,000 to ₦25,000 for vulnerable Nigerian households, with over 154,000 families in Jigawa State already registered. Each family will receive three payments totaling ₦75,000 to help with food, business expenses, and rising living costs.
More than 154,000 struggling families in Jigawa State, Nigeria are getting meaningful financial relief as the government triples its direct cash support program.
The Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme increased its assistance from ₦10,000 to ₦25,000 per payment cycle under President Bola Tinubu's directive. The boost comes as families across Nigeria face higher food prices and transportation costs that strain household budgets.
Commissioner Auwal Sankara announced Wednesday that 154,412 vulnerable households have registered across all 27 local government areas in Jigawa State. So far, over 126,636 families have already collected their payment cards and begun receiving funds.
Each registered household receives three payment cycles, bringing total support to ₦75,000 per family. The program targets those hit hardest by economic challenges, helping them afford basic necessities and keep small businesses running.

"The grant may sound small, but it has a great impact on the common man's life and the national micro-economy," Sankara explained. He pointed to tea sellers, food vendors, and other small traders whose businesses operate on thin margins where ₦25,000 makes a real difference.
The Ripple Effect
This cash injection does more than feed individual families. When local traders receive support, they buy more inventory from suppliers, creating a chain of economic activity through communities.
Small business owners use the funds to restock shelves and keep their shops open. Parents stretch the money to cover school supplies and medical needs. The cumulative effect strengthens neighborhood economies from the ground up.
The state government credits smooth implementation to Governor Umar Namadi's commitment to programs serving ordinary citizens. Distribution teams continue working to reach the remaining 27,776 registered households awaiting their payment cards.
Sankara emphasized that federal and state governments are collaborating closely to ensure support reaches those who need it most, building toward sustainable economic improvement across Nigeria.
