Nigerian Church Women Unite 300+ Through Culture Festival

Over 300 women transformed a Saturday church gathering into a vibrant showcase of Nigerian culture, proving that diversity can be a source of strength rather than division.

Gateway International Church's Women's Ministry hosted their annual cultural celebration in Port Harcourt, bringing together members from different ethnic groups across Nigeria. The event featured traditional dances, authentic cuisines, and colorful costumes representing the nation's rich heritage.

The theme "Beauty in Cultural Diversity" came to life through a cooking competition and cultural presentations. Women prepared traditional dishes from their home regions while teaching others about their customs and traditions.

Dr. Meg Lawal, President of the Gateway Women Ministry, designed the festival to celebrate differences while building community. "God made us different on purpose, different tribes, tongues, cultures, and talents, so that together we can reflect His glory," she explained.

Lead Pastor George Izunwa was so impressed by the cultural displays that he committed to making similar celebrations a regular part of church programming. He emphasized that faith and cultural expression can coexist beautifully.

Local government chairman James A. James showed his support by pledging 100,000 Naira (approximately $67 USD) to each participating group. His gesture reflects growing recognition of cultural preservation as a community priority.

The Ripple Effect

The celebration started as a small initiative to promote inclusion within the church. Now in its second year, the program has grown into a platform where women showcase talents, share their heritage, and build lasting friendships across ethnic lines.

Dr. Onyeije Ebere Chinecherem, who launched the program during her tenure as ministry president, noted that it gives women a rare opportunity to represent their ethnic groups with pride. The event creates space for cultural expression that many women don't experience in their daily lives.

The cooking competition sparked conversations and laughter as women exchanged recipes and stories. These informal moments of connection often matter more than the formal presentations, building bridges between communities that might otherwise remain separate.
