Nigerian Driver Borrows $2K to Campaign for President
A mini truck driver in Nigeria took out a loan worth over $2,000 to support political candidates he believes are making a difference. His commitment shows how strongly citizens can believe in their leaders.
When most people take out a loan, they buy a car or fix their home. Adeleke Adeniyi borrowed 3.5 million naira (about $2,200) to campaign for politicians he thinks deserve another term.
Adeniyi drives a mini truck in Ado Ekiti, Nigeria's Ekiti State capital. He recently appeared on local television displaying a bank cheque showing how he divided his borrowed funds: 2 million naira for President Bola Tinubu's re-election campaign, 1 million for Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and 500,000 for state assembly member Steve Fatoba.
"I am supporting Mr President because he's doing a very great job," Adeniyi explained in the video shared by Ekiti State Television. He plans to use the money to create campaign materials and even wrote a song to promote the president's 2027 re-election bid.
The driver works around the BAO Timber Market and says he's seen real improvements in his community. He particularly praised Senator Bamidele for supporting local projects that made a visible difference.

"Most times, I look at the kind of projects that you always supported," Adeniyi said. "It always encouraged me that this is a good leader."
This isn't Adeniyi's first political investment. In February, he borrowed money through a digital lending platform to brand a vehicle supporting Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji's second-term campaign.
Sunny's Take
In an era when many citizens feel disconnected from politics, Adeniyi's actions reflect something deeper than party loyalty. Whether you agree with his choices or not, his willingness to invest his own borrowed money shows a level of civic engagement that's increasingly rare. He's putting his money where his beliefs are, literally.
His story reminds us that democracy works best when people feel genuinely connected to their leaders' work.
