Nigerian Engineer Creates AI Tool to Solve Spreadsheet Chaos

Abiodun Adetona spent almost a year doing the same frustrating task: helping coworkers at Flutterwave pull insights from messy spreadsheets. Every single day, non-technical team members needed technical help just to understand their own data.

The software engineer knew there had to be a better way. In 2025, he and his three-person team launched Decide AI, an artificial intelligence tool that analyzes spreadsheets through simple prompts.

Think ChatGPT, but instead of answering random questions, it's laser-focused on fixing your data problems. Users can upload spreadsheets from their computer or connect accounts like Google Sheets, Google Analytics, or Google Ads directly to the platform.

The interface offers two options: a Fast agent for quick analysis and a Pro agent for complex calculations across multiple datasets. Marketing teams can connect their Google Ads to analyze campaign performance, while businesses can examine traffic patterns and user behavior trends.

What makes Decide AI different from other spreadsheet tools is what happens behind the scenes. The system first interprets the file structure, identifying sheets, headers, tables, and formulas before converting everything into a format it can reliably analyze.

Then it generates Python code to handle the actual calculations in a secure environment. Adetona explained they avoid relying solely on AI reasoning for calculations because that approach produces too many errors, or "hallucinations."

To test the system, a reporter uploaded a course registration dataset with hundreds of participants across different regions. The Fast agent cleaned the data, counted monthly payments, excluded certain entries, and grouped results by location in under two minutes.

The tool produced both a summary in the chat window and a downloadable Excel file. It identified which regions had the most incomplete payment records and flagged registrations missing proof of payment.

Decide AI addresses a problem that affects millions of workers who don't have programming skills but need to make sense of complex data. Small businesses without dedicated data analysts can now get insights that previously required hiring technical experts.

The tool democratizes data analysis, putting powerful capabilities into the hands of anyone who can type a question. What used to require knowing code or formulas now just requires asking.
