Nigerian Navy Stops Oil Thieves, Recovers 7,000 Litres

✨ Faith Restored

Nigeria's Navy just shut down a rebuilt illegal oil refinery and caught thieves red-handed at a major port, protecting the country's resources and economy. These back-to-back wins show determined efforts to stop oil theft are working.

Nigerian Navy forces just landed two major victories against oil thieves in a single weekend, destroying illegal refineries and recovering thousands of litres of stolen fuel.

In Rivers State, Navy personnel discovered that criminals had rebuilt an illegal refinery that had been destroyed earlier. The team found the site at Okolomade Community had been completely reconstructed with new ovens and storage tanks.

Inside, they discovered 3,000 litres of illegally refined fuel ready for sale. The Navy destroyed everything on site, including the ovens, storage tanks, hoses, pipes, and metal components used to process stolen crude oil.

Meanwhile in Calabar, Cross River State, another Navy team caught thieves siphoning fuel directly from ships docked at the Nigerian Ports Authority. Acting on intelligence, patrol teams traced the operation to a trailer park inside the port facility.

The thieves fled when they spotted the Navy team approaching. Officers secured the area and recovered 3,950 litres of diesel stored in drums and jerry cans, totaling nearly 7,000 litres recovered between both operations.

The Ripple Effect

Oil theft costs Nigeria billions in lost revenue every year, money that could fund schools, hospitals, and infrastructure. Every successful operation like this protects resources that belong to all Nigerians and helps stabilize the economy.

The Navy's Operation DELTA SENTINEL uses intelligence gathering and regular patrols to stay ahead of criminal networks. When thieves try to restart operations at previously destroyed sites, the Navy is watching and ready to respond.

These operations happen under directives from Chief of Naval Staff Idi Abbas, who has made stopping oil theft a top priority. The Navy has committed to maintaining this level of surveillance and quick response across Nigeria's waters and coastal areas.

Both recovered fuel shipments are now secured at naval bases for proper processing according to regulations. The successful weekend operations send a clear message that illegal oil operations will be found and shut down.

Nigeria's fight against oil theft is gaining momentum, one operation at a time.
