Nigerian Pastor Gets 1,000+ Suitors for Autistic Daughter

When Pastor Chibuzor Chinyere announced he was seeking a husband for his 21-year-old autistic adopted daughter Chiemeka, he expected interest but not quite this much.

The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry in Nigeria received more than 1,000 applications from prospective suitors within days. The overwhelming response prompted him to suspend the marriage plans pending further review.

Chinyere had outlined generous incentives for the right match, including a lifetime monthly salary, a house jointly owned by the couple, and no required foreign vacations that might separate them. He specified he wanted a young, able-bodied man who could provide proper care.

The proposal came with built-in safeguards too. Ministry staff would conduct unannounced visits to ensure Chiemeka's wellbeing and watch for any signs of abuse or neglect.

The thousand-plus responses suggest many men were moved by either the financial package, the chance to help someone in need, or both. Now comes the harder part: figuring out whose intentions are genuine.

This isn't Chinyere's first attempt at facilitating marriage for people with special needs under his care. Just weeks earlier, he arranged a wedding for Aboy Chibuzor, a non-verbal autistic young man who requires daily assistance, to a woman from Edo State.

The pastor has built a reputation for supporting vulnerable individuals. In 2022, he awarded fully funded scholarships to two young men known as the Happie Boys, sending them to study in Cyprus.

While the wedding plans are on hold, Chinyere's commitment to finding the right match for Chiemeka continues.
