Doctors at Federal Medical Centre in Asaba, Nigeria, can now grab critical medications in seconds instead of precious minutes, thanks to a new theater pharmacy built right next to their operating rooms.

Fidson Healthcare PLC donated the multi-million naira facility to the Delta State hospital, transforming what was once a cramped storage closet into a modern pharmacy stocked with surgical drugs and emergency supplies. Commercial Director Ola Ijimakin said the company chose the project after seeing the hospital's commitment to saving lives in the region.

The timing matters. When patients need medication during surgery, every second counts. The old setup forced medical staff to travel farther for drugs, creating dangerous delays during emergencies.

Medical Director Ekeneam Omo inaugurated the facility on Thursday, calling it a model for corporate partnerships in healthcare. He said the expanded space gives surgical teams immediate access to the medications they need when complications arise on the operating table.

The new pharmacy includes office space, a rest area for staff, and storage for the full range of surgical medications. Fidson committed to maintaining the facility and keeping it stocked with current supplies, ensuring it remains functional long-term.

This partnership shows how private companies can strengthen public healthcare infrastructure without building entirely new hospitals. The theater pharmacy model could spread to other medical centers across Nigeria, where resource constraints often force difficult choices about where to invest limited funds.
