Nigerian Police Rescue 11 Hostages, Recover 25 Stolen Cattle

Armed with courage and superior firepower, Nigerian police officers turned what could have been a tragedy into a story of hope when they rescued 11 kidnapped passengers and recovered 25 stolen cattle in a single night.

The dramatic rescues unfolded Monday evening in Katsina State when armed bandits blocked the Sheme-Kankara Road near Kakumi Village. The criminals intercepted a bus carrying 11 passengers headed to Kano and forced everyone off at gunpoint.

Within minutes of receiving a distress call at 8:45 p.m., the Divisional Police Officer of Kankara Division mobilized a team and raced to the scene. Officers engaged the bandits in an intense gunfight, and the superior police firepower forced the criminals to flee and abandon all 11 hostages.

All passengers were rescued without injuries and reunited with their families that same night.

Just five minutes later at 8:50 p.m., another emergency call came in about bandits attacking Badawa Village in nearby Malumfashi and stealing 25 cows from local farmers. Police teams equipped with armoured vehicles rushed to intercept the thieves along their escape route.

After another exchange of gunfire, the bandits abandoned the livestock and scattered into the night. Officers returned all 25 cows to their rightful owners before dawn.

The Ripple Effect

These twin victories represent more than just successful police work. They show what happens when law enforcement responds quickly and works closely with communities who trust them enough to report crimes immediately.

The rapid response times saved 11 people from potential ransom demands or worse fates. For the farmers, those 25 cows represent livelihoods, food security, and the ability to support their families.

Commissioner of Police Ali Umar-Fage praised his officers for their bravery and professionalism. He promised continued aggressive operations against criminal gangs and urged residents to keep reporting suspicious activity.

Security patrols have been increased across both areas to prevent future attacks. Officers continue tracking the fleeing suspects, building cases to bring them to justice.
