Nigeria's Adamawa State Hiring 5,000 New Teachers

Thousands of Nigerian students will soon have more teachers in their classrooms, thanks to a massive hiring push in Adamawa State.

The state is recruiting 5,000 new teachers to keep pace with an ambitious school construction program that's creating educational opportunities across the region. This comes after the state already hired 2,000 teachers in 2022, showing a sustained commitment to education investment.

Dr. Garba Pella, the state's Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, announced that screening and interviews for the new positions have already been completed. The recruitment process began in late 2025, moving quickly to fill critical gaps.

The hiring surge supports an impressive building boom. The state has constructed 21 new Model Basic Education Schools ready to welcome students next term and rehabilitated 68 secondary schools to improve learning conditions.

Adamawa is also tackling education access in creative ways. The state has integrated the Almajiri system into formal learning centers, where children now receive instruction in English and Mathematics alongside traditional studies. This approach helps more children gain literacy skills while reducing the number of young people out of school.

The state organized spelling bee and debate competitions among public school students to celebrate International Day for Education, giving young people platforms to showcase their growing skills. These events highlighted the theme "The Power of Youth in Co-creating Education."

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri's administration is betting that investing heavily in teachers and infrastructure today will transform the state's future. With 7,000 total teachers hired since 2022 and dozens of improved school facilities, more children have access to quality education than ever before.

Commissioner Pella emphasized that youth are agents of change in building an inclusive society, calling on parents and communities to support young people's educational journeys.
