Nigeria's Edo Queens Seek WAFU-B Final Redemption vs Ghana

Nigeria's Edo Queens are preparing for the biggest match of their season, facing the only team that's beaten them this tournament in a winner-takes-all final.

The defending Nigerian champions will take on Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on Saturday. The stakes couldn't be higher: a regional title and qualification for the CAF Women's Champions League in South Africa.

Both teams dominated their semifinals on Wednesday. Edo Queens crushed Burkina Faso's USFA FC 5-1 in one of their most impressive performances yet. Ampem Darkoa defeated Benin's FC Dynamique 4-1 to stay unbeaten throughout the tournament.

The two powerhouses already met once during the group stage, when Ampem Darkoa handed Edo Queens their only defeat with a 2-1 victory. That loss is fueling the Nigerian side's determination to claim the trophy.

"The girls are ready and good to go," said Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission. "We have the confidence that the cup is going back to Edo State in Nigeria."

Team captain Uroko Valentina promised fans that her squad is prepared for battle. "I will be the happiest person in Edo Queens to win the WAFU-B trophy for the second time," she said. "We are ready for war against the Ampem Darkoa Ladies of Ghana."

Edo Queens have been the tournament's offensive force, scoring 16 goals across their matches. They opened with a commanding 7-0 victory over Niger's AS Garde Nationale, then beat Côte d'Ivoire's ASEC Mimosas 3-1 before their group stage setback against Ghana.

The Ripple Effect

This final represents more than regional bragging rights for women's football in West Africa. The winner earns a place at Africa's premier women's club competition, showcasing the growing strength and professionalism of women's football across the continent.

Edo Queens' NWFL Premiership top scorer Atume is also competing for the tournament's golden boot award. Another strong performance could seal both personal and team glory in what promises to be an electrifying final.
