Nigeria's Ekiti State Invests $45K in Youth Programs

Young people across Nigeria's Ekiti State just got a major vote of confidence from their government.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji distributed N29 million (about $45,000) to youth, student, and community organizations on Wednesday in the state capital of Ado Ekiti. The funding reaches registered groups in all 16 local government areas, providing direct support for their programs and activities.

The investment addresses a critical need. Nigeria faces high youth unemployment and limited economic opportunities, making state-level support essential for young people building their futures.

Commissioner for Youth Development Gold Adesola, representing the governor, explained the funds aim to keep young people meaningfully engaged through entrepreneurship, leadership development, and civic participation. "By providing financial support and enabling a conducive environment for growth, the administration has continued to ensure that young people are meaningfully engaged and not left idle," Adesola said at the disbursement ceremony. The governor emphasized transparency and accountability as non-negotiable conditions. Organizations must use the funds specifically for running their operations and launching impactful initiatives, not administrative bloat or personal expenses.
