Nigeria's Falconets Ready for U-20 Women's World Cup

Nigeria's young women footballers are ready to show the world what they can do at this year's FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup in Poland.

The Falconets wrapped up their final preparations with a 1-1 draw against South Korea on Tuesday, following a 1-0 victory over Poland last Friday. Head coach Moses Aduku confirmed the best possible news: every player is healthy and ready to compete.

"My girls are ready, we are waiting for the 7th against Spain," Aduku said after the match. The team enters the tournament with no injury concerns, giving Nigeria their strongest possible lineup.

Star player Mary Mamudu scored in both warm-up matches, finding the net in the 29th minute against South Korea after being the lone scorer against Poland. While South Korea equalized from a penalty in the 78th minute, Aduku saw plenty to celebrate in his team's performance.

The coach acknowledged his squad could have won both matches with better finishing but praised their overall quality. He emphasized the team's approach: taking one game at a time, starting with their Group F opener against Spain on Monday.

Goalkeeper Effiong Bright Etim captured the team's fighting spirit after the South Korea match. She rated her teammates 95 out of 100 and highlighted a crucial lesson learned: never give up, no matter the score.

"We shouldn't give up, even if we're leading," Etim explained. "Play till the end, that's what we did." That mentality reflects the determination driving these young athletes as they prepare to compete on football's biggest youth stage.

The Falconets face a challenging Group F with Spain, China, and New Caledonia. After opening against Spain on September 7, they'll play China three days later before closing group play against New Caledonia on September 13.
