Nigeria's Ogun State Greenlights New Hospitals and Roads

Nigeria's Ogun State government has approved an ambitious infrastructure package that will bring new hospitals, improved roads, and expanded power generation to one of the country's fastest-growing regions.

The Executive Council approved construction of two General Hospitals in Itori and Aiyepe, expanding healthcare access to communities where demand continues to outpace available services. The facilities will bring medical care closer to residents who currently travel long distances for treatment.

The package also includes reconstruction of two major roads totaling nearly 10 kilometers. The Siun Junction to Iperu Junction Road and the Simawa to Lukosi/Ogijo Road will improve connectivity between local government areas, making it easier for people to reach jobs, schools, and markets.

Special Adviser Kayode Akinmade told journalists the road projects will open up new opportunities for economic activity across the state. Better transportation networks mean farmers can get produce to market faster and businesses can move goods more efficiently.

In a major boost for small businesses, the Council approved creating the Ogun State Enterprise Development Agency. The new agency will coordinate support for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises across the state, helping entrepreneurs access opportunities and expand their operations.

The state is also entering the power generation business through Gateway Power Limited. The move addresses a critical need in Ogun's rapidly expanding industrial economy, where reliable electricity remains a challenge for manufacturers and businesses.
