Nigeria's Ogun State Prepares New International Airport

A new international airport in southwestern Nigeria is gearing up to welcome its first passengers, bringing fresh opportunity to millions of travelers and businesses in the region.

Gateway International Airport in Ogun State is advancing toward full international operations after years of development. Governor Dapo Abiodun has launched coordinated talks with federal agencies to ensure the facility meets all requirements for passenger processing, security, and cargo handling.

The airport plans to begin with Hajj flights to Saudi Arabia, serving the region's Muslim pilgrims who currently face long journeys to existing airports. Captain Dapo Olumide, the airport's consultant and accountable manager, is leading meetings with immigration officials, customs services, and drug enforcement agencies to prepare for the launch.

The facility represents more than just another runway. Ogun State sits adjacent to Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital, and the new airport is designed to ease congestion while opening doors for businesses and investors throughout the region.

Officials have completed discussions with the Nigeria Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and Nigeria Customs Service. Additional federal agencies are joining the planning process to deploy specialized personnel and equipment before international operations begin.
