Nigeria's U-18 Basketball Team Goes Undefeated in Qualifiers

Nigeria's under-18 men's basketball team just proved they're a force to be reckoned with, winning all four games at the FIBA Africa Zone 3 Qualifiers in Burkina Faso without dropping a single match.

The Junior D'Tigers dominated the tournament with commanding victories, including a final 100-54 win over host nation Burkina Faso. Their perfect record earned them an automatic ticket to the 2026 FIBA U-18 AfroBasket championship in Ivory Coast from August 3 to 16.

The team's scoring power was on full display throughout the qualifiers. They defeated Benin twice with scores of 96-35 and 101-43, and beat Burkina Faso twice with victories of 98-54 and 100-54.

The qualification means Nigeria will field both male and female U-18 teams at the continental championship after the girls' team also secured their spot. It's a double win for Nigerian basketball and a testament to the country's growing youth development programs.

Bukola Olopade, Director-General of the National Sports Commission, congratulated the players and encouraged them to keep building their skills. She pointed to past Nigerian basketball legends like Hakeem Olajuwon and Olumide Oyedeji, as well as rising stars like Sarah Ogoke, as proof of the country's basketball potential.
