NJ Runner Jayran Rodriguez Wins 4th State Title, Breaks Record

Jayran Rodriguez crossed the finish line eight seconds ahead of his closest competitor, breaking his school's 3200-meter record and claiming his fourth individual state title this season.

The Manville High School distance runner dominated both distance events at the New Jersey Group 1 State Championships this past weekend. He won the 1600-meter and 3200-meter races, completing his 3200 in 9:17 and earning a spot at the upcoming Meet of Champions as the eighth-ranked runner across all state groups.

Rodriguez accomplished something rare in high school athletics: winning championships in fall cross country, winter indoor track, and spring outdoor track all in the same school year. His double victory anchored an exceptional day for the Mustangs, who brought home multiple state medals and set new school records.

Kamille Aly soared to new heights in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 2 inches to set a personal best and break Manville's school record. She placed second in the state with only one missed attempt throughout the entire competition, automatically qualifying for the Meet of Champions.

The team depth showed in the boys 800-meter race, where seniors Damian Smutek and Gabriel Zala finished fourth and fifth respectively. Both runners have been part of Manville's recent sectional team championships and helped set multiple school relay records during their high school careers.

Jayde Thompson added another medal for the girls team with a sixth-place finish in the competitive 200-meter dash. Her podium performance contributed to Manville's strong showing at the state meet.
