Norway Backs South Africa Solar Plant With State Guarantee

Norway just gave a powerful vote of confidence to solar energy in South Africa, backing a major renewable project with a state guarantee.

The Norwegian government has issued a state guarantee for Scatec, a clean energy company building solar power infrastructure in South Africa. This financial backing makes it easier for the project to secure the funding it needs to bring more renewable energy online.

Scatec has been busy expanding solar access across Africa and the Middle East. The company recently launched 1.1 gigawatts of solar power in Egypt, enough to power hundreds of thousands of homes with clean energy.

To finance its South African operations, Scatec issued a 1.5 billion Norwegian kroner green bond (roughly $140 million USD). Green bonds are specifically earmarked for environmental projects, meaning every dollar goes toward building a cleaner future.
