Nova Scotia Gets $175M for Giant Wind and Green Fuel Project

A $175 million investment just landed in Nova Scotia to build one of North America's most ambitious clean energy projects. EverWind secured the funding from Nuveen, a global asset manager, to construct over 650 megawatts of wind power and a cutting-edge green ammonia facility.

The project represents more than $2 billion in total investment and marks one of the largest private clean energy deals in Atlantic Canadian history. Construction is set to begin this year, with the wind farms expected to power approximately 200,000 homes by 2028.

What makes this project special goes beyond the impressive numbers. An Indigenous consortium led by Membertou First Nation holds majority ownership in the wind portfolio, creating one of Canada's largest Indigenous equity stakes in renewable energy infrastructure.

The investment will create approximately 500 jobs during construction and 100 permanent positions afterward. These aren't just statistics but stable careers in rural Nova Scotia communities, supporting local skilled trades, suppliers, and service providers.

The wind farms will connect to EverWind's Point Tupper Green Fuels Project, which will produce green hydrogen and ammonia for international markets. This integrated approach transforms Nova Scotia from an energy importer into a clean energy exporter, opening new economic opportunities for the province.

The Indigenous partnership ensures communities benefit directly through project economics, employment opportunities, and local procurement. It also embeds Indigenous leadership in long-term decision-making, reflecting a genuine commitment to economic self-determination and reconciliation.

The Ripple Effect spreads far beyond the construction sites. Host communities will receive more than $250 million in municipal payments, while the province gains over $250 million in tax revenue. Local procurement and supply chain development will create indirect economic activity worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

The project's phased approach manages risk while building toward something bigger. Each successful phase creates the foundation for future gigawatt-scale renewable developments across Nova Scotia, potentially multiplying today's investment several times over.

Independent energy advisor DNV conducted extensive technical diligence before the investment, validating EverWind's execution readiness. Years of work in engineering, permitting, and partnerships positioned the project for this pivotal transition from planning to construction.
