Offshore Wind Surges Globally as Major Projects Launch

The world is building a cleaner energy future at sea, with offshore wind projects advancing rapidly across Brazil, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, France, and Canada.

Brazil is breaking ground on a historic first. Petrobras has launched the Rio de Janeiro Offshore Wind Pilot Project, marking South America's first offshore wind development to move forward under formal environmental licensing. The 18-megawatt pilot project represents a crucial step in the region's energy diversification.

Dutch geotechnical firm Fugro will conduct extensive site investigations through 2027, gathering the critical data needed to design safe and efficient installations. The work includes soil sampling, testing, and analysis across four coastal and shallow-water locations off São João da Barra.

Meanwhile, Germany is preparing to host what will become its largest offshore wind farm. The Nordlicht I project in the German North Sea will generate 980 megawatts of clean electricity when it becomes operational in 2028. That's enough renewable energy to power more than one million German households annually.

CRP Subsea has secured a major contract to supply 141 specialized cable protection systems for the wind farm. These systems protect the critical infrastructure connecting offshore converter platforms to wind turbine generators, ensuring reliability throughout their operational life. Production is already underway at the company's facility in northwest England, with delivery scheduled for December 2026.
