Ogun Launches Train Station Road, 20 More Coming
A Nigerian state just unveiled a new road connecting commuters to its major train station, with 20 more roads planned for its golden anniversary. The move promises to ease congestion and boost commerce for 150,000 daily travelers. #
A new road is making daily life easier for up to 150,000 commuters traveling between Nigeria's southwestern states.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun opened the 3.5-kilometer Laderin to Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station Road in Abeokuta on Tuesday. The new route gives passengers easier access to one of five train stations connecting Ogun to Lagos, Oyo State, and northern Nigeria.
The timing carries extra meaning. Ogun State turns 50 in February 2026, and officials plan to celebrate by inaugurating 20 additional roads across the region. The state was created in 1976 alongside seven others during a nationwide expansion.
Governor Abiodun shared details about an even bigger project underway. The Sagamu Interchange to Papalanto to Opele Road stretches 100 kilometers and will give trucks hauling goods a direct route that bypasses the congested capital city. About 25 kilometers of the 40-kilometer first section now features reinforced concrete construction.
"When completed, trucks and vehicles conveying goods and services from Ota, Ifo and Ewekoro will no longer need to use the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway," Abiodun explained. Instead, they can connect directly to Papalanto and reach their destinations faster.

The newly opened train station road will do more than help commuters. It also provides access to the MKO Abiola Trade Fair Complex and surrounding communities in Laderin and Lukosi, creating opportunities for local businesses to thrive.
The Ripple Effect
These infrastructure improvements reflect a broader transportation vision. Although the original rail line was built without proper access roads, the current administration decided to fix that gap as part of a multimodal transportation strategy.
The state has now constructed over 1,600 kilometers of roads. One lane of the Atan-Lusada-Agbara Road is complete, with work progressing on the second lane. Each project opens new commercial corridors and reduces travel time for residents.
Chief Bode Mustapha, a former House of Representatives member and the Osi of Egbaland, remembered when the train station road was nearly impassable. The transformation represents tangible progress for communities across Ogun Central Senatorial District.
For the thousands of workers, students, and business owners who travel these routes daily, better roads mean more time with family, lower transportation costs, and easier access to opportunities across state lines.
