Ohio Counties Need Volunteers—Any Amount of Time Helps

You don't need to block off every weekend to make a real difference in your community. Dozens of organizations across Ashland, Richland, and Knox counties are looking for volunteers who can spare any amount of time.

The opportunities span nearly every interest. Animal lovers can walk dogs at the Ashland County Dog Shelter or care for cats at The Cat House Feline Sanctuary. Crafters can sew comfort items for cancer patients through ACTS 4 Love, many from the comfort of home.

Outdoor enthusiasts can maintain trails and remove invasive species with the Ashland County Park District. People who love working with kids can mentor youth through Mid-Ohio Youth Mentoring, spending as little as an hour weekly playing games or simply talking.

The Richland Outreach Center runs entirely on volunteers, providing free community meals and operating a diaper pantry. The New Store needs people to help children select clothing during Dressing Days, acting as personal shoppers for kids in need.

Some roles require training and background checks, especially those involving vulnerable populations. Safe Haven trains volunteers to answer hotline calls and support survivors in courts and hospitals.
