Oklahoma Humane Society Seeks Volunteers for 2026

A shelter dog named Albi is getting ready for his television debut, and his journey from foster care to the Puppy Bowl spotlight shows exactly what's possible when communities rally around homeless animals.

The Oklahoma Humane Society in Oklahoma City is opening its doors wider than ever in 2026, inviting volunteers, adopters, and animal lovers to join their mission to end pet homelessness across central Oklahoma. The nonprofit provides rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption services while engaging the community through education and hands-on support.

Visitors can meet adoptable cats and dogs at the shelter located at 7500 N. Western Avenue. The adoption process includes meeting animals in person, learning about each pet's unique personality from knowledgeable staff, and completing an application right on site if the connection feels right.

Albi's story captures the heart of what the organization does every day. This shelter dog earned a spot among more than 150 adoptable pups competing in Puppy Bowl XXII on February 8, bringing national attention to the importance of rescuing pets.

For those who want to help beyond adoption, the Humane Society welcomes volunteers aged 18 and up to assist with animal care, events, and outreach efforts. Teens aged 16 to 17 can also participate with a parental waiver and referral. A small volunteer program fee starting this year helps cover training materials and resources.

Poochella returns April 11 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Wheeler Park, featuring live music, food trucks, dog activities, and chances to meet pets looking for homes.
