Olympic Gold Boxer Lin Yu-ting Returns With Bronze Medal

Olympic gold medalist Lin Yu-ting is back doing what she loves best, returning to competitive boxing with a bronze medal finish at the Asian Championships in Mongolia this week.

The 30-year-old Taiwanese boxer hadn't competed since winning gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. After being cleared to compete by World Boxing following an appeal from Taiwan's federation last month, Lin made her comeback official at the Asian Elite Championships on Monday.

Lin challenged herself by moving up a weight class for this tournament. She competed at 60 kilograms after claiming Olympic gold at 57kg, losing her semifinal match to North Korea's Won Un Gyong but securing a bronze medal in the process.

Her coach Tseng Tzu-chiang sees the return as a valuable learning experience. "The opponents' skills, strategies and styles are all new to us, so we used this opportunity to observe and learn," Tseng told Taiwan's Central News Agency.

Lin's willingness to step up a weight division and face entirely new competition shows the mindset of a true champion. Rather than resting on Olympic laurels, she's pushing herself into unfamiliar territory to grow as an athlete.

Her coach emphasized the positive outlook on the result. "Losing this time isn't a bad thing; at least there's room for improvement and a clear path forward," Tseng said, noting that Lin's physical condition will improve with more competition time.

The bronze medal is just the beginning of Lin's 2025 goals. She's already training with the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan in her sights for later this year, giving fans something exciting to anticipate.
