Olympic Gold Medalist Hilary Knight Retires with Fiancée

Olympic hockey legend Hilary Knight didn't just retire with gold around her neck. She retired with her fiancée by her side, both competing in their final Games just down the hall from each other.

"It's really those smaller touchpoints along the way," she said, reflecting on what made these Games special. One of her happiest memories wasn't on the ice at all—it was a squeezed-in family dinner at a pizza place after one of the games.

Surrounded by friends, family, and godchildren who had traveled to support her, Knight felt overwhelmed with gratitude. "You could feel the love," she said. "Everyone was just so happy to be at the Olympics, enjoying themselves."

Why This Inspires

Knight's journey shows that success isn't just about the destination. During her final Olympic run, she got engaged to four-time Olympic speed skater Brittany Bowe, who was also competing in her last Games.

The two met through the Olympics, and fittingly, they got to share this final chapter together. They stayed in the same Olympic village, just down the hall from each other, seeing each other every day and cheering each other on.

"Her last Games, my last Games," Knight said. "To be able to share something like that with a person that you love the most is outstanding."

Bowe was even there to watch Knight win gold. Talk about a storybook ending.

Since returning home, Knight has been on what she calls a "full-blown press run," including a stop at Saturday Night Live. She got to meet the stars of Heated Rivalry, a show about hockey players that she'd become a superfan of.

Despite being an Olympic champion herself, Knight admitted to trying not to fangirl backstage. She failed—in the best way. "I'm like, 'I'm going next door,'" she laughed.

Now Knight gets to take that gold medal into her community and share it with the people who helped make it possible. "All of us going into our respective communities, having a piece of hardware and being able to share that with people is just so outstanding," she said.
