Olympic Skier Gus Kenworthy Engaged After Surprise Proposal

Olympic freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy just turned a vacation into the adventure of a lifetime when he proposed to fashion executive Andrew Rigby on the coast of Mallorca, Spain.

The 34-year-old silver medalist planned every detail of the August proposal. He whisked Rigby away on a private boat to a secluded island, telling him they were going on "a little adventure."

At the top of the cliffs, a picnic blanket waited with a pitcher of margaritas made extra sweet, just the way Rigby likes them. That's where Kenworthy got down on one knee.

"I thought this was just a relaxing vacation," Rigby told People magazine. "To say I was shocked was an understatement."

The surprises kept coming. After Rigby said yes, their boat took them not back to shore but out to sea, where six of their closest friends were hiding on a chartered yacht ready to celebrate.

The couple's journey started at a friend's birthday party in Mexico in March 2024. They dated long distance for a year between Los Angeles and Sydney, Australia before both moving to New York together last year.

Kenworthy made history in 2018 alongside figure skater Adam Rippon as the first two openly gay American men to compete at the Winter Olympics. Now he's making memories of a different kind with Rigby by his side.
