Oracle Powers AI with 300 MW Texas Wind Farm Deal
Oracle just signed a massive renewable energy deal to power its AI data centers with clean Texas wind. The tech giant is backing a 300-megawatt wind farm that generates enough electricity for 177,000 homes.
Oracle is putting serious money behind clean energy to fuel the artificial intelligence revolution without wrecking the planet.
The tech giant just signed a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement with Scout Clean Energy to support electricity from the massive Ranchero Wind Farm in West Texas. The deal covers most of the output from the 300-megawatt facility, which has been spinning clean power since 2019.
This partnership is part of Oracle's big bet on Texas wind and solar. The company recently announced it's backing more than 1,700 megawatts of renewable energy projects across the state to keep its AI and cloud computing operations running.
The timing makes sense. AI data centers are electricity hungry, and Oracle wants to match 100 percent of that power with carbon-free sources by 2035.
The Ranchero Wind Farm stands as Scout Clean Energy's largest operational project. Located in Crockett County, it generates enough clean electricity annually to power a city nearly the size of Pasadena, California.
The Ripple Effect
This deal shows how tech companies are solving two problems at once. Oracle gets reliable power for its growing AI operations while supporting the shift away from fossil fuels.
Local communities win too. The Ranchero Wind Farm will pump more than $57 million into Crockett County coffers over its lifetime, funding schools, roads, and essential services in a rural part of Texas.
Virtual Power Purchase Agreements like this one have become the go-to tool for companies wanting to support clean energy development. Oracle doesn't physically receive electricity from the wind farm, but its financial backing gives developers the certainty they need to build more projects.
Julia Robin, who leads infrastructure planning for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, says the company is committed to responsible growth as AI demands more electricity. The investments aim to make Texas's power grid more reliable and affordable while cutting carbon emissions.
Scout Clean Energy, owned by investment firm Brookfield, continues expanding its renewable portfolio across North America. This Oracle partnership shows how intertwined clean energy and technology have become.
As AI transforms everything from healthcare to transportation, deals like this prove the revolution can run on wind and sunshine instead of coal and gas.
